How the math works
- Feet times the price per foot for your pipe.
- Feet times labor per foot.
- Labor moved by your state's plumber pay.
- Wall patch and permit, if you pick them.
Pipe = feet × price per foot (PEX $0.40/ft to $4/ft) Labor = feet × $1/ft to $4/ft × pay score Pay score = state median plumber pay ÷ $30.67/hr Walls = $300 to $800 (if picked) Permit = $50 to $500 (if picked) Total = pipe + labor + walls + permit
Example: the starting answer
The page opens on a hundred feet of PEX, U.S. average pay, a wall patch and a permit. Here is how that adds up.
| PEX (plastic) pipe, 100 ft | $40 to $400 |
|---|---|
| Labor | $100 to $400 |
| Drywall patch | $300 to $800 |
| Permit | $50 to $500 |
| Total | $490 to $2,100 |
How to guess the feet
- Just one leak? You may need only a few feet. A leak fix starts near $150[1].
- One room? Count the runs from the wall to each sink, tub and toilet.
- The whole house? Ask the plumber for the total feet in the quote. Then check it here.
- Not sure at all? Compare with Angi's whole-house range in the chart.
What it can't tell you
This tool gives a range, not a quote. It cannot see inside your walls.
It leaves out taking out old pipe, ceiling repair, and new fittings or valves. Removing old pipe alone can add $1,000 to $5,000[1].
Leaks waste water every day. The EPA says an average home's leaks can waste over 9,300[4] gallons a year[4].
How to use your answer
A repipe is a big job. Your range helps you spot a quote that is way off.
- Pick the pipe type you want, or try all three.
- Ask two or three plumbers for a written repipe quote.
- Check that each quote uses the same pipe type.
- Look for wall and ceiling repair. Is it in the price?
- Ask how many days the water will be off.
The whole-home repipe range is wide: $1,500 to $15,000[1]. Angi puts the average near $7,500[1]. Your home's size and layout move you up or down in that range.
What repipe days look like
A repipe is not a one-hour visit. Knowing the steps helps you plan.
- The crew covers floors and moves things away from walls.
- They open small holes in walls or ceilings to reach the pipes.
- They run new pipe, then hook up each sink, tub and toilet.
- They test for leaks, then patch the holes, or leave that for a drywall crew.
Ask how many days the water will be off, and if you can use one bathroom at night.

Questions people ask
Where do the prices come from?
Pipe and labor prices per foot come from Angi. PEX, for example, is $0.40/ft[1] to $4/ft[1] per foot. State pay comes from the BLS.
How many feet of pipe do I have?
Only a plumber can say for sure. As a check, Angi says a whole-house repipe runs $1,500[1] to $15,000[1].
Why does my state change the price?
We move the labor per foot by how much plumbers earn in your state. The U.S. middle is $30.67/hr[2].
Does it include fixing the walls?
Yes, if you pick it. We add Angi's drywall range of $300[1] to $800[1]. Ceilings cost extra.
How we made this page
A computer helper (AI) found the public data. It also wrote the first draft.
Then we checked each number against its source. Each number links to that source.

How we calculated this
The calculator multiplies your feet by Angi's price per foot for the pipe you pick, and by Angi's labor per foot. It moves labor by your state's pay score (state median plumber pay divided by the U.S. median, from BLS). It adds Angi's drywall and permit ranges if you pick them. It shows Angi's whole-house range next to your answer.
